What are the main functions of vertical machining center?

Category: Release time:May 25,2021

I believe that people engaged in the mechanical processing industry are not unfamiliar with vertical machining centers. Vertical machining centers have a market share of up to 50% in the Chinese CNC machine tool market. It can be imagined that vertical machining centers are widely used in various processing enterprises and have been favored by many processing enterprises. Vertical machining center is developed on the basis of traditional CNC milling machines. It integrates all the characteristics and functions of CNC milling machines, as well as many other functions of CNC machine tools, such as boring machines, drilling machines, milling machines, grinding machines, etc.

The main functions of a vertical machining center are as follows:

1. Automatic tool changing function

The structure of a vertical machining center is basically the same as that of a CNC milling machine, and the machining process is basically similar. However, the difference between the two is that a vertical machining center is equipped with an automatic tool changing device and a tool magazine, while a CNC milling machine does not have this function. The automatic tool changing device and tool magazine that come with the vertical machining center enable it to have the function of automatic tool changing, which can be entered according to the tool used during machining. That is to say, vertical machining centers can freely change tools and perform different machining processes on workpieces.

2. One clamping of the workpiece can quickly achieve the processing of multiple processes

From the previous functional points, the vertical machining center has an automatic tool changing function. With this function, it can complete multiple processes such as drilling, milling, tapping, and threading in one clamping process.

3. The function of expandable axis count

Because traditional three-axis machining centers cannot meet customers' product processing requirements, such as processing complex curved workpieces such as impellers, blades, shafts, propellers, etc., three-axis vertical machining centers cannot be used for processing. Therefore, according to customer product requirements, it is necessary to expand the four axis or five axis functions. From the above description, it can be seen that the vertical machining center has the function of axis expansion, which can expand the function of four axes, five axes, and even multiple axes.

4. Multiple machining surfaces can be processed in one clamping operation

As can be seen from the above, a vertical machining center can expand the number of axes. Therefore, after expanding the number of axes in a vertical machining center, it is possible to simultaneously perform multi-faceted machining on the workpiece. This not only avoids accuracy errors caused by multiple clamping, but also saves a lot of time for manual clamping of the workpiece.
